You Probably Don't Need More Software. You Need a Clearer Look at the Business.

Adding another app often adds complexity. Here is how to diagnose operational bottlenecks before spending another dollar on technology.

Written by Terry Allison.

Over the past few years, trades owners have been bombarded with software subscriptions. An app for job dispatching. An app for time tracking. An app for quoting. An app for customer reviews.

Yet when you talk to the administrative team or shop foreman, work is still being entered twice, estimates are getting delayed in email inboxes and invoices take days to reach the customer after a job is finished.

More software rarely fixes broken communication or unclear responsibilities. In fact, layering new technology over vague processes usually just creates faster confusion.

Before signing up for another subscription, take a clear look at your business flow. Map out how a lead becomes an estimate, how an estimate becomes a job and how a completed job becomes cash in the bank. Fix the handoffs first. Then let technology support them.
